FSB Article

Here it is. The magazine is out, and the article for FSB's business plan competition, where we got fourth place, is here. LicketyShip is on page 5.

The Foreigner

After pedicures and a bit of shopping, we went further north to Cedar City to observe part of the Shakespeare festival and watch The Foreigner. Though it wasn't written by Shakespeare, it was highly entertaining and very well done. It was a show about a guy who comes to lodge for a three day vacation. Extremely extroverted, he worries about having to carry on conversations with the other guests, so his friend Froggie does him a favor and tells everyone he's a foreigner and doesn't speak or understand English. Because of this, he is privy to many confidential conversations, and ends up discovering the deep, dark secrets of the minister. the show concludes with an attack by the Klan, the Foreigner saving the day, and a little love! (How was that, Radu?)
When it was over, it was back to Moapa and the kids!

pedicures

So, on Friday we went hiking, and Saturday we did more girly things. After launching off the day with tai chi, we drove to Saint George and got pedicures. You get bonus points if you can guess which feet are mine!

Tai Chi

The morning after Zion's we took advantage of the free tai chi class our hotel was offering. Once we got over the initial confusion of standing in a circle so we could all face south, we followed along pretty well. But if you look too closely at the picture, you will notice that none of us are matching the instructor (guy in black). Oh well. My personal favorite step - "Embrace your tiger. Settle onto the mountian." You can take your own lessons online here.

Zion's National Park

For the first official day of our "sister's weekend," we went to Zion's National Park. We got to see the beautiful fall foliage, and had a full day of hiking. With a 3-month old to carry, and a baby on the way, we stuck to the smaller hikes but had a great day.

Devin

This is Devin, Jared and Marie's 2nd child. He is the only one who got to join us on all of our adventures this weekend, and he got to participate in everything from hiking to tai chi to pedicures! Still in the "coo and poo" stage of life, he added his "energy" to the labyrinth in southern Utah by spitting up as soon as we made it to the middle!

So, there's the kid intro. I'll fill you in on the week's activities in the next post.

Lexi

This is Lexi, Cinnamon's oldest. Lexi also does soccer and gymnastics, and also dances. She put on a pair of Lily's dress-up shoes that were at least 1 inch too small and barely walkable and did an improv clogging routine while singing a song about her shoes. Kara decided to dress her up in construction paper, and this picture is from the early stages. By the end she was covered head to toe!

Lily

This is Lily. Lily had her 6th birthday while we were in Nevada, and what a party to celebrate! 20 kids under the age of 8, a pinata, a rousing game of duck duck goose, and enough presents to make it feel like Christmas! Here she is eating the Belle cake from her party. Lily does soccer and gymnastics, and we got to watch a gymnastics performance while we were there.

Sam

This is Samuel, Cinnamon's only son. Samuel is in a very fun "I say cute things" stage, and my favorite quote from the weekend is, "I sure love you. What's your name?" He also wants to be a dinosaur for halloween, and this is a dinosaur costumer that his Grandma sent him from Indiana. But not a scary dinosaur, a "big, nice dinosaur." We did finally get him to growl by the end of the week, so maybe he'll be scary after all.

Eden

This Is Eden, Cinnamon's youngest. Eden reminds me of CindyLou on the Grinch - she doesn't say much, and walks around happy as can be. But don't be fooled - she only looks innocent! If you turn your back on this one, she'll sneak in a pinch to the baby! From the moment I arrived in Nevada, she latched on to me, and it was fun to have a little shadow. It also added a little challenge to hold her while playing soccer and baseball with her big sisters!

sisters' weekend

This weekend I met up with my three sisters (two sisters and one sister-in-law) in Nevada for a little girl bonding time. We actually ended up staying for a full week, and so got some quality bonding time in with the kids, too :-) For those of you who don't know them, I'll introduce you to them here.

FSB

This is Justin, myself, and Radu (L to R) at a coffee shop after the ceremony. Man, I miss those guys!
We ended up placing 4th in the competition out of 82 entries. It was a little disappointing (we'd gotten used to winning!), but not nearly as disappointing as the article. I'll put a link here when it's up online, and let you guess why.

The Big Apple

Justin, Radu and I met up for truly our last LicketyShip endeavor. We got in on Monday night and met up with Kaleo and Bharti, two friends from the MBA program for dinner, and then headed over to a little club called Zinc to meet up with one of Radu's friend and her sis (I'll have to check with him on the spelling of their names - they're Polish!) Radu "discovered" her as an actress back in undergrad, and she's absolutely darling!

ND vs USC

Mike's friend Tom met us in South Bend for the USC game this weekend. I don't even like football, and what a heartbreaker! USC is undefeated for something like 36 games, and are ranked #1. With 2 minutes left, the Irish were up by 4, and we thought we had sealed the game. but alas, USC, scored a touchdown with 7 seconds left in the game. The game was hailed as the "game of the century" and we couldn't have asked for any more excitement on a football field.

View

This was taken a few weeks ago from Mike's apartment window. Great view, eh? You can almost see the game, but unfortunately, the scoreboard is facing the wrong direction so you have to turn the tv on, too, if you want to have any clue what's going on.

Chicago Marathon

In spite of the fact that I didn't run it, i went to check out the Chicago Marathon. 27, 000 runners and over a million spectators! I met up with a fellow MBA alum, Meghan Crowe, and a friend of hers from work, and we scoured all 27,000 faces in search of the few people we knew. Meghan finally saw one, but by they time she reacted all i caught was the back of his head. Wow! I admire the perseverance of those runners. The ones in the first half run 26 miles at a faster pace than I run three!

Goodbye to LicketyShip

It's been a long time since I've written any sort of update. Let me give you the highlights from the last month, and we'll go from there.
1. LicketyShip is moving to California. Sarah is not.
2. I've recently reentered the job market, and am looking for something in Chicago.
3. Mike started his job with Price Waterhouse Coopers, and is really enjoying it. He's currently on a long project in Minneapolis.
4. Mike moved in to a new apartment, which I am helping to decorate. It's in Wrigleyville, and has a great view of the lake and Wrigley Field. Since he's gone all week, I get to use it as a base for my job hunt, which works out great.

I think those are the biggest developments. It all sounds rather boring right now, but crucial information for future developments in my life (and on this blog).
